South African musician Johnny Clegg was one of South Africa’s most celebrated artist known for his original mix of Western pop and maskandi. Over three decades, he sold over five million albums of his brand of crossover music worldwide. the white Zulu was arrested on a number of occasions during the apartheid for violating the Group Areas Act and other laws while working with black musicians. Johnny Clegg was part of two bands, JULUKA and SAVUKA. Savuka created the ani-apartheid song ASIBONANGA in dedication to former president Nelson Mandela Johnny Clegg receives the Order of Ikhamanga during the National Orders ceremony in 2012, awarded by former President Jacob Zuma.
