Cookie is on fire! Taraji P. Henson had all eyes on her when she took the stage Sunday night to collect her very own Golden Globe for her standout performance on Fox’s hit Empire. And while her entire head-to-toe look, topped with a messy-chic angled lob, was beautiful, her makeup was truly next level.
Henson’s longtime makeup artist, Ashunta Sheriff, tells Pret-a-Reporter that “the [Stella McCartney] dress was very ethereal, clean and goddess-like, so my focus was to make Taraji a walking goddess.” She succeeded, giving her glowing skin, warm nude lips and sultry yet transparent, luminous eyes. “I wanted the look to resemble Old Hollywood glam yet with a sexy, modern spin,” says Sheriff.
To start Henson’s eyes, Sheriff first applied L’Oreal Colour Riche Eyeshadow in Sunset Seine ($6) all over her lids, then added the Cafe Au Lait ($6) shade in her creases. She lined the actress’s upper and lower lids with L’Oreal Infallible Black Velvet Liner ($10) to “outline her beautiful almond-shaped eyes and make them stand out.” The last step: three coats of L’Oreal Voluminous Superstar Red Carpet Mascara ($11), which created full, thick lashes that were ultra-black.

Thanks to the influx of illusion lace bridal designers, racy plunging necklines are a mainstay in the bridal world. But actually wearing these siren styles can be seriously intimidating if you don’t know how to make the plunging neckline work for you!
Corrine Foxx
Start with a balancing act. A plunging neckline loses its siren call when paired with a softer silhouette and long sleeves - even if they’re sheer! Take a cue from Corrine Foxx, this year’s Miss Golden Globes, with her whimsical take on this major bridal trend.
Jenna Dewan Tatum in Zuhair Murad Couture
Although far more sultry than Corinne Foxx’s gown, this Zuhair Murad style still strikes a balance with a full skirt. A wider shoulder and the massive beaded floral pattern create alternate focal points away from that bold neckline!
Olivia Wilde in Michael Kors
If you’re comfortable with upping the ante, you can still strike the perfect figure with a body hugging silhouette like this Michael Kors style. To make this a bit more “bridal friendly” add sleeves to create a bit more balance and minimize the total amount skin on display. Keep it sophisticated by opting for only one design embellishment like Olivia Wilde’s tonal sequins.
Rose Huntington White in Atelier Versace
If the nearly navel plunging neckline style is just #teamtoomuch, opt for this peek-a-boo style deep v-neck gown instead. Still paired with a soft silhouette, the overall gown is completely venue appropriate. And when selected in a white or off white shade, you’re practically destination wedding ready!
